Stone,Waddesdon3

Take a short stretch of the A418 westwards for two reasons; the chance to see Upton, a hamlet you might never visit otherwise and for a safer crossing of the A418 to Cuddington avoiding turning right from the main road.
Cuddington is a pretty village, several times winner of the Best Kept Village Award; look out for the collection of weathervanes on a roof on your left as you leave the village and plunge downhill to the River Thame.
The only way is up from the River Thame, first to Chearsley another ancient village with The Bell pub and the Village Stores by the green and its church tucked away at the bottom of the village off the route. The climb continues onto the ridge where you turn left for Ashendon, downhill at first and then climbing to the highest point on the route. You turn left at the top of the hill before reaching the centre of Ashendon, where the church is.
After a long plunge downhill you turn sharp left by the old Wotton Station house then skirt the wooded estate of Wotton Underwood before crossing the A41 at Kingswood.
The flatter middle section of the route takes you close to Quainton railway Centre on the way to Waddesdon, where you take the estate roads of Waddesdon Manor to Upper Winchendon. Sadly the drive through Eythrope Park is now closed to cyclists, but the ridge road through Upper Winchendon has great views. Look out for the scrap metal sculptures at a farm entrance on the left of the road and the Observatory on the same side.
Take care on the fast descent of Cannon’s Hill as you must stop at the bottom, before climbing back up to Cuddington with perhaps more time to see the weathervanes on the right this time.
Turn right opposite The Crown pub in Cuddington into Dadbrook and cross the A418 to Haddenham where you can follow the route for a scenic tour of this interesting village or take the direct way back to Stone.
This is a hilly ride of about 33 miles (53km) with 1667 feet (508m) of ascent. We hope you enjoy it!
