Garmin Sync - automatic route transfer to Garmin devicesWe're very excited to announce two significant new features that we've just launched:

    • starring of routes

    • automatic transfer of selected routes to Garmin devices

The new route starring feature enables you to flag selected routes of interest on your My Routes page with a star. You can then filter the list to show only starred routes, hiding other ones that you don't need to see right now. This feature is available to both Standard and Premium members.

The new Garmin Sync feature gives Premium members the option of automatically transferring starred routes to Garmin devices via Garmin Connect. To use the Garmin Sync feature, you first need to set-up the link to Garmin Connect (you do this only once from your My Settings page), then it is simply a case of starring any routes you want to transfer. Once starred, a route is queued for transfer and should appear as a Course in Garmin Connect within a few minutes, where it will then sync with your Garmin devices. Unstarring the route on your My Routes page will remove it from Garmin Connect, so you can easily control which of your routes you want on your Garmin devices.

Please note, the Garmin Sync feature is in Beta release, as it is a complex new development - this means it has been through testing but may still have bugs. Please let us know if you spot any problems by reporting them on the forums. There are also currently some limitations to the route information that can be transfered to Garmin using this method, but we hope that this will be enhanced over time.

Read our How-To Guide on using the Garmin Sync feature for more details.

For more information about Premium membership, please visit our Membership Options page.

Awesome, you made my day! Integration works like a charm. It transfers all route directions (custom once as well). Great job!

It's very good news for my garmin watch, but It's useless for garmin gpsmap 66. Gpsmap 66 does not use Garmin Connect  to download tracks  unfortunately

Can you not sync your GPSMap66 using Garmin Express Mikhail? Our understanding is that Garmin devices without bluetooth can download from Garmin Connect using the Garmin Express software. See Garmin's advice on how to sync with Garmin Connect for more details.

This is also strange for me, as well as for you, but for This is also strange for me, as well as for you, but for GPSMAP 66 Garmin made a separate tool for downloading track -  Garmin Explore. This is a strange and raw product.  As a result, you have to use either with oldstyle usb download, or use iq applications like GRouteLoader, gimporter

    Hi!

What about courses visible for other cyclist

    Garmin Connect:

Private: Courses imported from plotaroute cannot be made public.

Hi Mikhail - the Garmin API doesn't allow us to specify the privacy settings of any routes transferred, so they are all saved as Private courses on Garmin Connect.  If you want to make a Course Public, you would need to duplciate it on Garmin Connect (you can select this option from the menu near the Send to Device button when viewing the route on GC).

I have noticed that even though I mark the route in plotaroute as a road route, when it ends on Garmin it is showing as off-road (and I cannot edit it in Garmin - I presume because it has been uploaded) is this a known issue?

Hi Rupert - the current version of the Garmin API doesn't allow us to specify a terrain type when transferring routes as Garmin courses. If you want to edit a course on Garmin Connect, you would need to duplicate it first (you can select this option from the menu near the Send to Device button when viewing the route on GC).

Hi. Whilst I've been cycling for sometime I've never used a route planner before.

i would like to use a screen device on my bike to show/give directions and the map in real time.

i use an iPhone but are there other devices I can sync to i.e Garmin, that I can use the routes I have planned.

what devices would you recommend that are compatible.

    look forward to your advice

The Garmin Edge range of devices are very popular Stephen you can automatically sync your routes from plotaroute.

Just found this feature recently (great addition, thanks!)

Is there any way to star a route from the routemaking page?  My general usage of Plotaroute means I plot a route, save, then download/sync.  Would be great to be able to tick a box in the Save menu where I can star the new route immediately rather than having to go to My Routes to star it.

Can start a new thread in Feature Requests if this isn't possible -- or is it already possible and I'm just missing how to do it?

You can only star a route from the My Routes page at present. We've added your suggestion for an option to star a route when saving it to our Feature Requests list where people can vote for it (number 110).

Just found this. Haven't tried it just yet but it sounds brilliant. Obviously looking forward to something similar for Wahoo, but for now this sounds great!
