The problem with the list of routes not showing should hopefully be fixed now.  Some changes have also been made for the other points.  Thanks again for your feedback Martyn.

I'll have a look at these issues Martyn. I'm not sure why the list of routes isn't showing on collection 85 - the list is actually there although hidden (but you need to drag the handle up to resize the list). I'll look into fixing this.

I'll have a think about opening routes in new tabs - it's a good idea but my only concern is that it could result in lots of tabs being opened, which some people might not want.

That's a good idea to show Total Distance.  This would probably be more useful than Average Distance, so I'll show the total instead of the average.

    Thanks,

    John

    John,

I've just viewed a couple of my collections.  One of them (ID=85) is relatively small and seems to load instantly.  The other (ID=86) is much larger and loads in stages as you describled.

    Observations:

With the small collection (85), any detailed information appears to refer to the final route loaded.  I've tried things like 'Hillines' and 'Information'. Also, only the final route 'plays'.  There are no switches below the map to move between individual routes.

With collection 86, the swithes are there so I can move between routes.  However, if I click to view the information for a particualr route, this opens in the same tab. I have to click back to get back to the collection which seems to open all over again (which I guess is not what you want if you are trying to minimise server load.)

It would be handy to have a 'Total distance' amongst the information below the collection.

    Best regards,

    Martyn

Excellent!  Both changes sound to be 'just the ticket'!  I'll give them a try.  Thanks for the ultra prompt response.

We've put in a change for this.  All routes in a collection will now be loaded by default.  Loading will be staggered to manage the impact on our server, but this also has the advantage of drawing attention to the fact that there are multiple routes.

We've also changed the Route Colleciton feature to support Private routes.  Obviously Private roites can only be viewed by their owner when signed in, so any Private routes in a route collection will not be accessible to other people.

Thanks again for your feedback on this Martyn.

Could the system display smaller collections in full (I suspect they will be the majority) but catch large collections with a message saying  "It's large so only the first route is displayed. Swith on  additional routes as required." ?

Thanks for this feedback Martyn. The main reason for not loading all the routes in a collection when it is initially veiwed is the load on our server.  Some routes can have up to 50,000 points and there can be up to 30 routes in a collection, so that could be a massive hit on our server, which could impact other users of the site.  I'll have a think about a solution, as I can see it would often be helpful to display all the routes in one go.

    Hi John,

I think this idea may have got lost amongst a general discussion so I'm posting it as a specific request.

When viewing a collection, only the first route in the collection appears on the map initially.  I suggest it would be better if all of the routes in the collection appeared on the map by default.

It is 'a collection' that is being viewed, after all, and to see just one route gives the impression that something has gone wrong.  It's not helped by the fact that the 'switches' for selecting which routes to display can be hidden off the bottom of the screen.

I'm about to send the link for a collection to some friends.  The collection will be called 'The whole network'. It's going to seem very strange when what they see is anything but the whole network. ;-)
