Thans for sharing that feedback Martyn, that's very helpful.
I've had an opportunity to test out navigation in the app a bit more thoroughly. Here are some observations:
Best regards,
Martyn
Ah! Seems I need to get close to the route to see directions. I was only seeing an 'Off Route' warning or 'Waiting for accurate location signal'.
I doubt that I'm alone in 'trying out' the app from home and hence miles from any route I might have loaded. I would not be surprised if most people start this way. If this is, indeed, a common first experience, the messaging may be worth re-considering. Perhaps it could say something along the lines "This route has directions. These will be displayed here when you are close to the route." I also wonder if the 'Off Route' warning and 'Waiting for accurate location signal' could be made distinct from the directions... perhaps underneath the directions rather than in the box itself? I can imagine a scenario where a weak signal has just scraped together the direction and displayed it when, immediately, it becomes overwritten by the 'Waiting for accurate location signal' message.

Thanks for that feedback Martyn. At present the full list of directions can't be shown in navigation mode, but you can tap on the next direction shown at the top of the screen to expand it if it is truncated.
If I'm following route directions (in the app) and select the navigation button, the directions pane disappears and I can't seem to get it back again. Directions often provide details that navigation does not so I really want to be able to use them together.
