howzit, my track includes Waypoints but when I upload to plotaroute either using gpx or kml the track / route only shows the waypoints I created e.g. Home dont get brought in?

Hi there - someone else was asking the same thing recently.  The GPX import doesn't currently import waypoints, just the trackpoint coordinates.  However, it was next on our list to look into changing this to import any waypoints in the file as well.  It would be great if you could email me an example file with waypoints in, so that we can ensure that the changes will work for you.  I'll email you directly so that you have my email address.

    Thanks,

    John

Hi there - just to let you know that we've just released a new version of our Upload feature, which now uploads any additional waypoint information included in GPX files and also any CoursePoint information included in TCX files.

As well as uploading waypoints you've saved, this now means that you can import turn by turn directions for routes mapped elsewhere, as long as this information has been included in the file (TCX is the the best file format for this).

Hi, I'm a fan of plotaroute as editing existing routes is so much easier than other sites.  It is good that waypoint information is now maintained when uploading.  It would be nice if there was a way to add waypoints to a route from within plotaroute.

Ideally I'd like to add a waypoint indicating the most important aspect of the ride, i.e. the cake stop.

Hi Michael - you be pleased to know that there is already a way to add waypoints to your routes.  To do this just click on the directions option ("DIR'NS") then then click the Add/Edit button in the directions panel.  This will display a draggable icon on the map labelled "Edit".  Just drag this to where you want to place the waypoint, then type the waypoint details in notes field in the directions panel and tick the "Show Symbol" box if you want to display a symbol on the map at the waypoint location.  You can choose a different symbol by clicking on the symbol shown next to the "Show Symbol" tick box.

    Hope that helps.

Hi John, I missed that thanks.  One follow up question though,  is it possible to turn waypoints off so they are not created unless I manually add a waypoint?

Ideally I only want to place waypoint at stops on the route.  While I can clear all waypoints and then add my specific waypoints if I subsequently replot a section of the route new automatic waypoints are added - while I could manually delete these it is a little tedious to accomplish.

Sorry, I've just spotted the "Automatically Add Directions" options in the settings.  Turning this off should give me what I need.

    Thanks.

I tried turning off 'automatically add directions' and I still get blue flag/ turn directions showing up when I export as gpx and upload to my garmin.

Is it safe to just manually delete all these waypoints?

Hi John - The "Automatically Add Directions" setting relates to plotting new routes. Once directions have been added, you will need to delete them if you don't want them to be included in a downloaded file.  As long as you don't save the chnages after deleting them, they will still be there next time you load the route.
