All roads lead to and from Kandy's Temple of The Tooth Relic, which is considered the heart of the country and perhaps the most auspicious place to start or end a hike along the Tea Trail. Home to the ancient kings, and the most sacred Buddhist place of worship, it is also the backdrop to the spectacular yearly Esala Perahera. A historically rich religious procession of temple elephants, acrobatic dancers, fire eaters and Kandyan drummers parading nightly between July and August.

The trail officially starts at the Temple of the Tooth. The Ceylon Tea Museum is located approximately 4.7 km away on the road towards Hantana. You are welcome to walk these 4.7 km should you wish to or alternatively take a local tuk tuk up the hill. The reason we positioned the trail head at the Ceylon Tea Museum was simply to avoid having to walk up the hill on a road which can be congested with traffic at times, with no clear path for pedestrians at this stage.
