Description: single track trail that takes you up the into the Santa Monica Mountains from. In this out and back you climb just over 1000 feet and are rewarded with stunning ocean views. The first ocean overlook is just past your first mile but keep going! The second ocean overlook is at about 2.2 miles and on a clear day is breathtaking. Many people head back down after enjoying this view. To run the full portion you’ll follow the trail inland for half a mile. Here you have left the ocean and are treated to views of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Caution: dogs are not allowed on these trails. Also, as is true in all of our mountain trails, we share the terrain with snakes.

How to get there: from anywhere in Ventura County head south on Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1)) to La Jolla Canyon. This will be south of Mugu Rock. La Jolla Canyon is marked and you can turn left into a paid parking lot ($12.00 per day or State Park Pass). Parking on PCH is also common but be careful to pay attention to the signs so that you don’t accidentally park too close to the driveway and get a ticket. It is a short walk to the trailhead from PCH. (Google maps:Malibu, CA 90265

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
