This route has been specially created for the S.A.L.V.E. International charity for their 2020 'Beat the Boundary' walk challenge, which aims to raise funds for children and families in Uganda. See www.salveinternational.org for details.

It offers an easy-to-follow, largely traffic-free London walk of 26.98 km (16.8 miles), i.e. exactly 1/100th of the length of the Uganda boundary.

While the start of the route is shown as Westminster Bridge (by the Houses of Parliament), it can actually be started from any location along the way. As well as the numerous car parks available, there are several public transport hubs very close to the route, including London Bridge, Waterloo, Charing Cross, Fenchurch Street, Marylebone, Kings Cross, and St. Pancras stations. These stations and the various bus stops, Underground and DLR stations along the way can be used to create a shorter linear walk.

Much of the route follows either the Jubilee Greenway, completed in 2012 to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Games, or the Thames Path.

The Jubilee Greenway is signposted on the ground by distinctive glass pavement slabs. These markings can be followed all the way from where the route joins the Regent's Canal towpath to the north of Regent's Park to Limehouse Basin at the southeast corner of the route. Note, however, that the section from the canal to Limehouse follows the link Section 10 of the Jubilee Greenway rather than its main route. The markers on the ground are likely to indicate the route of the Greenway more precisely than this map.

The section from Limehouse Basin to Tower Bridge follows the Thames Path, which is marked by frequent fingerposts but basically follows the closest possible route to the River Thames. After crossing Tower Bridge, you rejoin the Jubilee Walkway to cross Westminster Bridge and then enter St. James's Park.

From here, the route does not follow a waymarked path and so special attention to the map will be required as you follow a selection of roads and pathways between and through areas of greenery. These include St. James's Park, Green Park, Berkeley Square, Grosvenor Square and Regent's Park.

Once you join the Regent's Canal towpath, you are back on the Jubilee Greenway.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
