Begin by crossing the high street to end up on the Thyme and Tides side. Walk East about 75 metres, when you get to the Garden Inn, take a right. Go through the double gates without getting your dog lead in a tangle (easier said than done!) Walk roughly 100 metres with the Test tributary immediately on your left. When you get to a small wooden bridge, cross it, go through the gate, then walk another 100 metres along the path through the field. You'll come across a rusty white kissing gate, go through it and walk over the concrete footbridge. You are now at the entrance to the Common Marshes, proceed through the gate and you are away! Take any route through, round, over, or under the Marshes and take in all the beauty the Test Valley has to offer. For a good one-hours' walk, follow the path anticlockwise around the Marshes, ending up back at the entrance gate you came in via, then retrace your steps back to the hotel for a cuppa or something stronger!
