CAMC Warwick-Hatton-Warwick 9.7 Mile Circular

A relatively easy 9.5 mile walk from the CAMC site/racecourse through countryside, country lanes and canal towpaths ending in Warwick itself.

Shortly after setting off the route crosses common land with a wildlife conservation area set aside in the centre of the racecourse. After a short walk we enter fields and cross the busy A46 into more fields before entering Hampton Magna, a small residential village which was once the location of a military barracks which closed during the 1960s. A walk along quiet country lanes follows before joining a section of Shakespeare's Avon Way to Hatton Locks, a streach of 21 canal locks on the Grand Union Canal. Brief refreshments at the cafe on the top lock and we follow the towpath east towards Warwick. We pass through north Warwick, following the Grand Union Canal Walk until we meet the river Avon where we turn south to follow the river until we enter the public parks with Warwick castle in the background. From the parks we turn right into Warwick itself taking a left into castle Street to view the 17th century buildings near the castle. Some well deserved refreshments in the Market square before returning to our starting point.
