From the car park the route follows the Etherow Goyt Valley Way west alongside the river Etherow as far as Botham’s Hall. Leaving the river it climbs steeply through Back Wood to the village of Lumn then turns SSW on the edge of Werneth Low Golf Course to the hamlet of Beacon Houses.

The path turns south dropping steeply into Etherow Country Park to cross the river Etherow near to a large weir. The route then climbs steeply through Ernocroft Wood to reach the A626 Glossop road which it follows for a short distance (good pavement) towards Charlesworth village.

Leaving the road at Higher Stirrup Farm the walk drops back to join the river via Cown Edge Way. The return to Broadbottom village is along the river. Most of the walk is on good paths but it could be muddy in places after the recent wet weather.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
