Holmes Chapel To Alderley Edge - The Golden Turnip

According to the Avis Ratio (an algorithm that determines if a road is fun to drive), this is the finest driving road in the UK, which is all good and well except that it is not the UK's finest road!

It's far too short and far too popular meaning traffic is horrific. The fundamental road is fantastic and in that sense, Avis's algorithm has been successful. The road has fantastic corners, great road markings, and undulations. It's also one of the few roads I've driven in the UK with corner banking - a particular delight. If this road was empty, with no speed restrictions and without the junction in the middle it might well be one of the finest roads in the UK, but it isn't because it does indeed have all these problems and more!

The nice thing is the surprisingly large number of OMG moments it delivers! The first being the Twemlow Viaduct which is stunning and visible from the road, the second being the huge Jodrell Bank Telescope and the third being supercar heaven which is Alderley Edge - I've quite literally never been anywhere quite like it. The local people have decided to put all their money into supercars and quite frankly it's incredible! Within the first few minutes, I saw a Ferrari 512, an Aston Martin Vanquish both gen 1 & 2 and a Porsche GT4. The town is also notable for the relatively liberal use of plastic surgery! As a southerner visiting the area for the first time the shock value was massive.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
