The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

Walk involves two moderate hills but the inclines are not severe. The walk starts at Hartside (Park at junction) the route goes via Alnham Moor and the Little Dod (380 Metres). The route follows "Salters Road" to High Bleakhope. The walk also follows the River Breamish for a short stretch. The route then ascends High Cartle (482 Metres) then gently descends to Rigg Cairn (460 metres) before taking the detour to Linhope spout waterfall. Total distance is 8.9 miles. Mud factor should low and the views from the hill tops spectacular.
