This is a lovely scenic ride. Strava recorded the ride as 16.5mls and 1400ft. height gain. The ride takes in the historic port of Amlwch and the wonderful Bronze Age Parys Mountain Copper Mines (short walk or can cycle from the car park to see the enormous colourful quarry, this is a MUST).

The Sail Loft Cafe overlooking the harbour at Amlwch Port and next to the Industrial Heritage Centre/Copper Kingdom Museum, is recommended. It was closed on the day though (29.11.19) but the Quay Café also at Amlwch Port was great.

Leave extra time if possible for a walk along the harbour wall, the café stop, getting right down into the base of the mine and of course taking dozens of pictures.

Suggest starting at SH467 881, a small off-road parking area on the A5025. Go past City Dulas, past Oak garage/Dulas Boats on the right. After 600m the parking area on the left is just before a left (and right) turning. Start here to get to the café stop in the middle of the ride. We parked 3 cars there.

From this starting point the route takes you down (and back) to Traeth Dulas. This is the huge scenic tidal estuary of the Afon Goch river and a bird paradise. Can park down there too but beware - we were nearly caught by the high tide. Later, a short diversion off the 566 cycle route at Llanelian takes you past the picturesque Porth Eilian bay en-route to Lynas Point, a short distance further on.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
