Yes, what you see depends on your phone, I guess. But with an Android, you should indeed be able to browse to any folder. -

Also is working well for me. I point to my file manager, (rather than pictures and photos - I'm sure it makes no real difference, so long as you pick the relevant gpx file) press upload and it's done -

As a cyclist, I would recommend switching between the Cycling map and the OS map with "Hills" active, both within PR when creating the route, to minimise those pesky hills!
