A challenging walk for experienced walkers with significant ascents and descents in the first half of the journey.

The route starts with a stiff climb out of Sidmouth with glorious views over the Sid valley. On reaching the top of Salcombe Hill it follows the cliff edge towards Salcombe Regis. This gentle walk along the coast path to the lip of the Salcombe Regis valley is followed by a short detour inland through a wooded area towards Salcombe Church. This part of the route 'contours' the valley and helps to avoid a steep descent into and ascent out of the village. The signage at the church is poor. Look carefully.

Walkers are signposted towards the sea before again ascending a steep path to the top of Eastern side of the valley. The route then follows the cliff edge until it reaches the rim of the Weston mouth. Again fabulous views in abundance.

At this point the sea is left behind and the journey takes walkers inland through a caravan park to a minor road which links Salcombe Regis and the Donkey Sanctuary. This road is followed towards Salcombe for a few hundred yards before a footpath on the right takes the route in a northerly direction parallel to the Donkey Sanctuary until the main coast road, the A3052, is reached. There will be a controlled crossing.

The route crosses the main road before dropping down the hillside through a field and a wooded area to a small community at Boswell Farm. The route is well signposted through the houses and onward to Under lane. The walk then follows Under Lane to the Junction with Buckley road and on to Sidford via Harcombe lane where the route again meets the A3052. Walkers will stay on the north side of the A3052 before crossing it at the traffic lights and walking into the Hospiscare car park. Pebble stones will be delivered here and the record book signed.

The walkers will then leave the Hospiscare car park at the eastern end and take South Lawn and Drakes Avenue towards the Byes. The footpath through the Byes will then be followed back Millford Road, the sea front and the rugby club.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
