Set off from home at 09.20hrs and met Jose at Clifton Green at 09.30hrs. Headed along Shipton Road to Skelton, then on to Huby crossing Bohemia. From Huby headed to Crayke, Oulston and Coxwold. Where we found the cafe closed. We then retraced our steps to the Newbury Priory Lake where we took a left onto the gated road which we followed to the t junction, turning right in the direction of Yearsley. We left the road at the top of the climb turning left into Yearsley Forest. Here we found a good spot for our picnic, before heading on through the forest to come out on the road below Ampleforth Abbey that leads to Gilling. Before reaching Gilling, I noticed some cyclists sat in the grounds of the model railway. They turned out to be Wednesday Wheelers, Peter Pink, Alf Westmoreland, The two Phils and a new member Phil Morrel. We chatted for a while and I took their pictures and then we headed on our separate ways. We continued to Gilling and then Cawton where we took a bridleway to Hovingham. We stopped for a drink and a piece of cake each at the bakery. Prior to this, I just managed to cycle across the ford but advised Jose against it, as it was slippy on the bakery side. We left Hovingham and headed for the top of Terrington Bank. Here I took my last photo as it was just starting to rain. On the descent of Terrington Bank along with a strong headwind, it rained heavily. At the bottom, I had great difficulty getting my rain jacket on as the wind was very blustery. We continued on to Sherriff Hutton, Strensall, Haxby and New Earswick at which point Jose and I parted company. I arrived home at 15.50hrs. 49 miles of a quite hilly ride and a strong headwind on the homeward leg.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
