Hauneradweg Fulda - Bad Hersfeld
Eine weitere Möglichkeit ist der Hauneradweg. Die Haune fließt etwas östlich der Fulda ebenfalls nach Bad Hersfeld und mündet dort in die Fulda. Das Flüsschen entspringt in der Rhön etwas östlich von Fulda.
Diese Strecke beginnt in Künzell, einer Gemeinde, die mit Fulda zusammen gewachsen ist. Direkt aus Fulda heraus ist man schnell auch nach Künzell geradelt. Jedoch könnte man auch in der Innenstadt von Fulda auf den BahnRadweg Hessen fahren und so etwas abkürzen. In der Nähe des Ortes Götzenhof kreuzt der BahnRadweg Hessen (hier der Abschnitt Milseburgradweg) den Hauneradweg sowieso.
Entlang der Haune geht es eigentlich meist bergab. Man erreicht bald den Haune-Stausee. Kurz zuvor passiert man eine naturnahe Aue mit Schilfgräsern und vielen kleinen Wasserflächen. Dieses Gebiet ist ein Naturschutzgebiet und wird sich selbst überlassen.
Diese Variante weicht am Haunesee etwas vom ausgeschilderten Hauneradweg ab und umrundet diesen fast komplett. Es geht dann etwas bergauf und man kann einen Blick über den gesamten See genießen - dafür muss man eben den Anstieg bewältigen, den der offizielle Hauneradweg nicht beinhaltet. Weiterer Vorteil: Man fährt durch den Wald und nicht an der Bundestraße 27 entlang.
Im weiteren Verlauf fährt man an Hünfeld vorbei, wo Konrad Zuse wirkte. Zwischen Burghaun und Neukirchen bietet sich - da man etwa die Hälfte der Strecke absolviert hat - eine Rast an. Man findet dort ein paar Bänke direkt an der Haune - hier entspringen Mineralwässer aus zwei Quellen und fließen dann direkt in die Haune...
