Gebrannter Kopf - Birkbach Runde
Zunächst geht es hoch auf den Höhenwanderweg Hersfeld-Homberg und ihm folgend bis kurz vor den Gebrannten Kopf. Da der Wanderweg für das Fahrrad zu unwegsam wird, geht es dann an der Bank links weg und sich am Hang entlang schlängelnd weiter.
Dieser Abschnitt ist wunderschön mit fast flächendeckendem Farnbewuchs, wechselnd Nadel- und Laubwaldabschnitten und teils steil nach links abfallendem Hang.
Am Gebrannten Kopf vorbei trifft man nochmal kurz auf den Höhenwanderweg Hersfeld-Homberg und zweigt aber unmittelbar wieder links ab, um hinunter ins Tal zu fahren. Dabei kommt man durch ein kleines idyllisches Tal und trifft auf den Birkbach, dem man dann bis nach Obergeis folgt und der dort mal zwei Mühlen antrieb, die man passiert. Der Rückweg verläuft auf dem Radweg durch die Felder.
Die Strecke habe ich von zu Hause aus aufgezeichnet. Will man im Tal beginnen, bietet sich der Aufstieg am Teich und Förster Hohmann Denkmal an; diese Variante habe ich als "Detour" mit eingebaut.
