From Your Café in the Park in Aston Clinton turn right onto the London Road then left at the mini roundabout onto the Lower Icknield way. Follow the route to Puttenham, which is known as a “Thankful Village”, one from which all those who went to the 1914-18 Great War returned safely. There is an unusual green tin chapel on the right, opposite the road leading to St Mary’s church.
Turn left at the crossroads in Long Marston. Soon after, on the left is a board describing the gruesome murder by drowning in 1751, by a mob, of an elderly couple, because she was accused of being a witch.
Look out on the left for “Beeching House”, the site of Marston Halt station on the Aylesbury to Cheddington branch railway line, which was closed because of Dr Beeching’s review of the network.
There is a sharp little climb to the pretty village of Wingrave with its pub, village pond and church then downhill to cross the A418 to Aston Abbotts, which is another attractive village.
At Cublington crossroads turn left through the village of old brick cottages, the Unicorn pub and church, and enjoy the views on the roller coaster road to Whitchurch.
Follow the route along Whitchurch High Street and climb Oving Road before a downhill swoop through Pitchcott with views across the vale.
At the crossroads take the right turn to Quainton with its pretty green rising to the right surrounded by cottages and topped by the restored windmill. The George and Dragon pub and café by the village green is a popular refreshment stop for cyclists.
From Quainton, take Station Road past the railway centre then turn left to Waddesdon. Turn right along the A41 then left to Waddesdon Manor. Follow the road through this beautiful estate with a steep climb to the top of Waddesdon Hill to join the ridge road through Upper Winchendon.
Take care on the descent of Cannons Hill; you must stop for the left turn at the bottom, before crossing the River Thame and climbing to Cuddington. You should be going slowly enough to see the collection of weathervanes on the right as you enter the village. Cuddington is another pretty village and deserving winner of Best Kept Village awards.
Follow the route to cross the busy A418 to Dinton, then left at the first crossroads and right at the second to Bishopstone and then Marsh crossing.
The major hills are behind us now but there is still a gentle climb to Stoke Mandeville before the return through Weston Turville to Aston Clinton.
This is a hilly 60km (37 mile) ride with 487 m (1600 feet) of ascent. We hope you enjoy it!

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
