Hi Steve - thanks for the suggestion.  We'd certainly like to be able to add this feature to the site at some point, as it is already high on our Feature Requests list (number 15).  It's mainly a case of finding a viable tehnical solution, but there are a number of options that we are planning to look into.

    Hi.

I have a similar request that may be related to this.

I am plotting a 1205 mile cycle route and have been doing so by hand. It's when I thought 'there must be an easier way than this' that I came across your website.

Basically, I am editing an existing GPX file, modifying the route to suit my needs, and then tidying the remainder to follow the current map. The image below shows an example of the problems I have in the latter stage.

It would be a huge plus to be able to upload a route, specify the limitations of the route, and then have the route snap itself to follow the appropriate roads, tracks and paths nearest the existing route. This issue will arise every time the underlying map tiles are updated, so will be extremely useful to update any GPX to file suit.

    Many thanks.

    Steve.

This one is actually next on our list, so we're hoping to start work on developing this very soon

This feature would be great. So far I've only seen this possibility in Garmins Basecamp.

I agree with this.  Being able to trace over a route would be quicker than making a big edit.  Maybe it's me but I always find it hard to replot anything more than a small section of a route.  Brilliant site though!

Thanks Matt.  This is number 9 on the Feature Requests list for anyone that wants to vote for this.

I'd definitely add another vote for being able to see two routes at the same time.  It's quite often that I want to start with someone else's route, make a copy and then make some changes - eg to change the start/end or adjust the overall length, etc - and being able to see what I've changed would be very useful.  So having a route being edited in one colour and one (or ideally more) other route(s) in different colour(s) would be great.

I like this idea. I often pick up traces that people have previously generated when running a route, but these traces often contain deviations from the ideal route.  I find myslef switching between screens to try and replot the route, but with more accuracy.

If the original route was highlighted on the plotting map, then this process would be significantly easier.

It would also potentially allow to load up multiple routes to compare them in the same screen

Nice idea Dave.  We did have in mind a possible alternative way of generating directions for routes that don't have them but hadn't thought of this way of doing it.  I'll add that to the list to think about.

It would be nice to be able to 'trace' and imported route if it has been created from a file.  This would allow turn by turn directions without having to create the route from scratch.
