Hi Michael - thanks for this feedback.  There isn't any easy way for us to abbreviate the directions text unfortunately, and this is complicated by the fact that the directions are generated in many different languages. I like your idea of a search and replace facility though.  I've added this to our Feature Requests list (number 87) where people can vote for it. I think it would be a fairly easy one for us to implement and I can see how this would be very useful.

Plotaroute is great...I use it weekly to make routes for bike rides. I share the link to the route and the downloaded route file with my cycling group.

The problem that I have is that on some bike computers the longer directions scroll off the display and the street name gets lost. I always edit the directions to leave just the street name as the turn arrow is enough to know which way to go. I also shorten Street, Avenue, Road, etc to St, Ave, Rd, etc. 

It would be nice if there was a way to turn off the "Turn left ..." text and to select the abbreviations for street types. If that isn't possible maybe a "search and replace all" in the direction editor would be possible.
