This might be a question for a Garmin forum Aaron. The FIT file you download from plotaroute will contain coursepoints for any directions, labels or symbols that have been added in the directions panel (it doesn't matter what symbol you choose), but it's possible that Garmin Connect or your Fenix device may be deleting the coursepoints and replacing them with it's own.

Hi Again - I tried to plot a quick out and back this past weekend. To avoid the confusion with "and back" portion I just created the route in a single direction with no loop or any overlapping trail sections.

When I transferred it to my Garmin the Garmin only displayed the trail name under the "Next Waypoint" field and did not include any of the course points I added to the trail. I'm wondering if this is a Garmin issue or just a user error issue with my limited experience using plotaroute.

Can you please outline the proper steps to not have TBT directions but to show the course points when creating a route and transferring it as a FIT file to the Garmin Fenix? Or direct me to the forum thread where this is outline?

Are there any Course Point symbols I should avoid?

Great! Thanks - I'll keep that in mind for future out-and-back trails.

We've found the explanation for the missing coursepoints and have put in a fix, so have another look at it. The coursepoints are in the correct order in the file but I think there's still a possibility that you may see the E. Pond coursepoint in the wrong order on your Fenix, as it's on an out and back stretch of the route, so the GPS device may get confused by that. In a FIT or TCX file, coursepoints can only be assigned a coordinate position rather than  a position on the route, so devices can sometimes show them at the wrong time if they're on an overlapping section of the route.

We'll look into this and get back to you Aaron  as something doesnt look right - some of the coursepoints are missing when we try to download it. I think it's probably getting confused by the absence of directions, but we'll investigate.

I finally was able to work through the steps in various other posts to get only waypoints to show up on my fenix6 course (yay!)

One issue I still had was my waypoints came up in a weird order. I had the following directions (waypoints) in the listed order:

Then when I started the course on my Garmin the first "Next Waypoint" listed was the Little E. Pond. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on why this was out of order?

Link to the route itself: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1461457

Steps following to load onto the watch:

    1. Plotted the route

    2. Deleted all directions

    3. Added in course points I wanted

    4. Downloaded as fit file with all warnings and notifications set to 0

    5. Copied the file into New Files

    Thanks!
