The Make Me a Route tool is more suited to longer routes, as there don't tend to be many alternative circular routes available for very short distances. If you want to experiment with variations for short routes, I'd recommend using the Plot with Waypoints tool, which lets you add a small number of waypoints to the map that you can drag around.
