Ability to import waypointsFORUMS HOME SEARCH FORUMS

I just noticed this thread after starting a discussion for issue #109 to allow import of file with non-route waypoints (to display on map), and transfer those to my Karoo.

Thanks for that additonal feedback. We do like the idea of creating a personal Waypoints Library.

It would be great to create these waypoints in a "library" that can be used a starting point for planning rides ....

I copied the coordinates of the selected campsite to plotaroute and used replot to give

This is 'good enough' for me. 

note: I found using replot was simpler than either route shortening or route-splitting (both of which require multiple drag-and-zoom operations).

Thanks for the feedback and no issue with it staying off the wishlist. I'll scratch around to see how best to achieve the same functionality indirectly.

OK, thanks John. That's useful to understand. It sounds like you need something where you can import the waypoints to the map, but if 99% will be redundant you wouldn't want these saved with the route. To do that I think we'd need to develop some way of importing and managing waypoints that are only temporary - possibly a waypoints library for each user that you could add to and select from to add waypoints to the background map when plotting a route. It's a nice idea, but I think it could be quite a bit of work to develop.  

Place waypoints without a route plotted.  Many of the points will be off route (and 99% of them redundant). The ability to load a gpx route and then add the waypoints to the same map would be very useful.

Use case is a multi-day bike trip. I have the entire route planned as a series of arbitrary segments (as I can't predict daily progress). On the day of a ride I could use mobile plotaroute to see what campsites / stores are nearby. I could then mod the segment to include appropriate waypoint(s) for that day. I could use the tel:// meta data to call and book ahead.

Thanks for that suggestion John. How would you want the file to be handled? Would you want the import process to automatically calculate routes between each of the waypoints? Or would you want it to simply place the waypoints as symbols on the map, without any route plotted? 

I have have a .gpx file consisting entirely of waypoints. Meta data includes a name, type - e.g. campsite / store etc; icon; comments. It would be very useful if i could import the way points as part of my route planning.
