We've made some further changes to the route printing process to try to overcome the problem with map tiles being misplaced.  We've had to reduce the height of the map in order to achieve this but it should now print correctly.

The issue relates to the way browser printing processes handle images that overflow page boundaries.  The maps are made up of many image tiles of a fixed size, so some of them are partially hidden, as they overflow the map boundary.  This is correctly handled by the browser when displayed on screen but it appears that it isn't when printing.  We'll look into an alternative longer-term solution to try to overcome this, possibly printing directly to a PDF file.

I'm glad we've made some progress! That's odd that the Paths maps is still not printing correctly, I'll do some more experimenting and post back when I have an updated.  Unfortuantely the underlying problem seems to be bugs in the web browser, as it should correctly print what is displayed on screen - the tweaks we're malking are just trying to compensate for this.  We may look into a longer term solution that doesn't depend on individual browsers for printing.

OK, so I have tried out some different options for you here and I have had mixed results.

The first attempts were to try different layouts and save them to .pdf format and look at them there, then to try to print both from the .pdf and then to print directly from the web browser.

It would appear that if I try to print in the layout Standard Google street map then it works fine to print to .pdf and then this works fine.

If I then try to print the same route but using the paths map. This produces the same issue as before where the picture is distorted. This happens regardless of whether it is printed directly of printed from the .pdf the .pdf also shows the same issue.

I have saved the .pdf’s and the scanned copy for reference if you need them. After finding the fault on the paths map, I stopped there.

If I can help any further, please let me know.

I don't have an immediate answer I'm afraid, but we'll do some more investigation into the issue and try to get it fixed.  I can reproduce the problem here now though, so hopefully that should help to resolve it.  I'll report back here when I have an update.

It's hard to know why this happens.  It seems to be very random and only affects a few people, so it could be related to the printer you are using. The best advice I can give is to try clearing your browser's cache and also try disabling any browser plug-ins you have.  Other than that you could try using a different browser, or a different printer if you have access to one.

Hello this is happening to me here today. I have tried several iterations of print outs, printing a route over several different numbers of pages, printing in different styels, terrain, route, paths etc. Each time the pdf route differs from that which I have mapped on screen, the route misaligns from the roads.

    Any suggestions please.

Ok thanks for the reply. I think I need to have a look at it. I would say, that when you hit print, the screen displays the system correct but if you preview the print out it still comes out wrong.

I have a laptop at home. ill try it there when I get back tonight.

    Thanks.

Hi Simon - I've received the images you sent but can't seem to be able to reproduce the problem here.  Can you try clearing your browser's cache and then trying again?  Chrome would be the best browser to use.  Otherwise, I'm wondering if it's connected with the print driver you have installed or some other software on your computer.

    Hi there,

As per the email, I have checked on multiple browsers - Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. Both have similar issues once an attempt is made to print. the break up of the map layer. This also happens if I try to print to .PDF I have tried all these options through both browsers and although the break up of the map layers, is different, essentially, the issue remains.

    Thank you for your response.

    Simon.

Hi Simon - Can you let me know what browser you are using please?  It would be worth trying a different browser if you are having printing problems.  I'll email you directly as well as it would be helpful to see the images.

    Hi there,

I have been trying to print off my maps to be used for a scouting walk but I noticed, when I printed that the maps do not properly align. Although most of the route is useable there are sections where the maps do not properly line up which means that effectivly we are not able to use the maps.

Has anyone had this issue before? is there a fix? I love using this software but I wont be able to continue to use it if I am not able to print off route cards.

I have images but could not find a way to attache them to my post. but I could email them out id that helps.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Simon.
