    Hi

if I download a route from Waymarkedtrails, for instance https://cycling.waymarkedtrails.org/#route?id=1662090&map=8!54.4281!9.7876 and upload it to plotaroute, I get a Route that consists of several single routes not all with the same direction. I guess because of that they are connected with long straight lines.

My question: How can I remove these long straight lines and join all the single routes to one route?

Shame on me but I'm a newby here, so please answer a bit detailed

    Many thanks for help

    Hi Wilfried,

You should tell something more. Purpose is probably only for retrace ?

Ochsenweg ? Indeed segments do behave as 'oxen' as they collide ;-)

By (osm) unfortunely such segments are offered in opposite directions.

Display without connecting the segments would be nice for retracing.

Some software does so (Locus), some other do not.

Plotaroute ? Lets wait and see.

Hi Wilfried - it sounds like you mighbt be downloading the route from Waymarkedtrails as a GPX Route file instead of a GPX Track file. A GPX Route file will only contain waypoints, not the detailed track of the route.

    @ Plotaroute admin.

The gpx download is a track (trk) !

    https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/display/20200422003320-61145-map.html

    By Topografix gpx 1.1

A Track Segment holds a list of Track Points which are logically connected in order. To represent a single GPS track where GPS reception was lost, or the GPS receiver was turned off, start a new Track Segment for each continuous span of track data. (http://www.topografix.com)

There are two common approaches to deal (display) GPX with track segments:

    1. FALSE.

Ignore it (Plotaroute) so just connect segments and show as single track.

Not correct imo as otherwise tracksegments had not te be invented_created.

    2. CORRECT.

Show a gap between segments, so does look like different tracks

All points inside a segment are drawn as one continous line..

One track can contain multiple segments.

I did some research. If I haven't overlooked anything the problem seems to be, that plotaroute is not able to import tracks with several tracksegments and display the segments separately without connecting them.

    In gmx-files the tracksegments are divided like this (waymarkedtrails) <trkpt lat="53.6065476" lon="9.7105595" /></trkseg><trkseg><trkpt lat="53.6199741" lon="9.6741635" />

    or like this  <trkpt lat="53.6065476" lon="9.7105595" /></trkseg></trk><trk><trkseg><trkpt lat="53.6199741" lon="9.6741635" />.

If plotaroute could make this possible, I'ld nominate them for the next Software-Oscar if available. ;-)

Sorry Wilfried, we misunderstood your question. I'm afraid you can't load more than one route at a time into our roote planner, so if you upload a GPX Track containing multiple track segments, it will concatnate them into one route. However, you can use our Split a Route tool to easily split this into a number of different routes. If the are redundant connections between the routes that you need to delete, you can delete these connections using the Shorten Route tool.

If you then want to display them all on one map, you can do this by creating a Route Collection.

    I hope that helps.

Thank you for attention and answers. I'm going to try it with the tools, though it seems pretty cumbersome especially when there are many segments in longer routes from Waymarkedtrails.
