Autorouting does not work on routes which have restrictions, like roads closed in winter because of snow.

To avoid this when planning cycling paths in mountain roads during summer, two suggestions:

    - Add a button to ignore restrictions

    - If restrictions are seasonnal, add a button to say you plan to ride the road on a certain date, and ignore the restrictions which do not apply on that date

Thanks for the suggestion Pierre. We've added this to our Feature Requests list (number 116), where anyone interested in it can vote for it.

I'm in disbelief that I can't plan a route on closed roads seasonably or otherwise. Until such a toggle is created, please remove any such restriction.

In Plotaroute, autorouting is based on the OSM (Open Street Map). However, you can plot manually (whatever the seasonal open/closed situation) by selecting AUTO-PLOT OFF.

    Hello Mark,

I understand this, but when auto plot is off, manual plotting on long roads can be tedious. I discovered this limitation when trying to plot a route on "col de l'izoard", which is a famous climb in France that Tour de France uses regularly. As the top is at 2360m it is closed in winter, so you cannot auto plot it. But as it is 19km long, manual plotting takes time, and the result is not as nice.

I tried to plot in winter, when the road is closed. I wonder if auto plot would work again in summer when the road is re-opened

    +1 Pierre

I'm in a similar situation trying to plan riding through the Alps this summer. My workaround was to create routes for the passes in Strava, import them to Plotaroute, then use the "Combine Routes" tool. Is this ludicrous or ridiculous?

Or you can take routes from other routes repositories like open runner, then you can import them in plotaroute and edit them.

Or wait a bit : Most of the passes will open early June. Maybe the restrictions will be raised by then ?

But then I'll be riding and not routing.

    Both,

I understand your pain! My AUTO-PLOT OFF comment was just to be sure the obvious wasn't being missed. :)

As you know, maps are based on OSM data, which is opensource. See How To Correct Map Errors. But I appreciate that seasonal roads are not "errors".

So, until PR somehow resolves this, the a relatively quick workaround that might work in PR is to change your computer clock to a summer time. Crude, but it might let you plot your routes.

    Mark

We'll look into this to see what we can do to help. There's no quick fix though, so any solution probably won't help until later in the year when roads start closing again for the winter.
