Popular Routes
My plot a route premium membership is up for renewal again. I use PR premium almost weekly to create cycling routes and ahve always made them public for others to use, I am not an active forum user anymore since the acquisition as a year ago I did try Visorando and didn't enjoy the experience before. So here I am one year later ready to give Visorando a go again. I am linked my accounts ages ago.
So I go into the Visorando website and straight away its all about "walks" .
The homepage is "Free walks library, route planner & outdoor GPS", all my routes are under the "My Walks" menu option, then I see "All my walks. Not a good start since I don't walk!
So I try to edit a ride "walk" . I find "edit track" but I can't understand at all how to edit a route, and I certainly can't see a way to select that I want the route optimised for cycling (ie don't send me down a footpath with no bike access).
I'm wondering, what aspect of Plot a Route HAVE you incorporated into Visorando so far? If you haven't even changed the word "walk" on the front page, I'm thinking you've done very little.
So in the last 3 years I spent $25, $26 and $27 each year (I assume USD, as it doesn't say).
All I can say is, at least it hasn't gone up. I will renew, but honestly, there is zero reason to switch to Visorando that I can see and to be honest, without Plot a Route development continuing, you're falling behind my alternatives.
Please do correct me and tell me that you actively encourage cyclists to use Visorando?????

Toni, And to add .... before the aquisition, PR was developing a true moblile app, similar to Visorando, Komoot etc. It was in the earlystages of beta testing, and to be honest, was not what I hoped for.
Maybe this will be the best of both worlds ..... Fabien & Arnaud,
I believe that it's vital to have the user experience the same map in the mobile app as was used to create the route in the desktop application (or the equivalent mobile app, in PR's case). This was not done in the above mentioned PR beta mobile app.
As a cyclist, I am of course referring to the Cycle map, with this colouration:
I have not played with Visorando, yet, but I do hope this methodology is implemented. Mark
ps, I originally posted a ~ 400 x 400 image, and got the message Maximum post size exceeded - avoid large images unless added as links. It's really frustrating not to be able to add a simple screen grab, especially when trying to help other users. Sometimes it let's me, sometimes not .....
Hi Toni,
We acquired Plotaroute for several reasons: its advanced features, its strong community, and its presence in the UK and internationally. We see Plotaroute and Visorando as complementary, one excelling in desktop route planning, the other offering a robust mobile experience on the ground.
Our goal is not to abandon Plotaroute, but rather to explore how the best features from each platform can enhance the overall experience for all users. Our main development efforts are focused on Visorando, where we aim to gradually incorporate the best ideas from both platforms. As always, user feedback will be central to how we move forward.

I want to make sure I understand. You bought plotaroute so you could get all the goodies that are in it and put them in your own app, and plotaroute is being completely abandoned but -at the moment- is still available for those who prefer it.
It is possible to create Up Ahead points that sync to Garmin already
Plotaroute and Up Ahead points
Plot the route as normal.
To add a Garmin Up Ahead point, get the approximate area that you want the UA point to appear on sceen,
Click "Add" to add a new one and drag it to the position required, or click an existing direction and select "Edit"
Click "Turn Arrow" and select "None"
Click "Symbol" and then select the appropriate symbol, see the large diagram to map the PAR symbol to the appropriate Garmin UA point, and the diagram also shows you how it'll appear on the watch.
Save the custom direction, and repeat for all UA points.
Either use the direct sync if you have PAR Premium OR export the route as a FIT file, then copy it to /Garmin/Newfiles on the watch.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your kind words!
I'm compiling a list of all the requested features, from the Feature Requests list, but also from the different forum topics and posts.I'll make sure to include this request as well. :)
All the best,Julien
Dear Julien, I personally love polataroute as it is for many years. Thank you for it! And hope that indeed it will stay as it is as e..g for me, one of the reason i chosen you to not use within an app. LOL.
There is one more thing I would like to ask you to be kind and consider to implement: Garmin recognizable course point. At the moment, Notes/Labels and Navigaton turns indeed recognize dby teh Garmin watch, and works perfectly. BUT would be awesome, if these turning points would be stored in the FIT file as well as Course Points, so garmin devices would list them at "Ahead" data screen. This is currently only possible using Garmin connect, though ti is simply structural question, I checked the FIT sdk, and since you can export FIT file, shouldnt be a huge development.
BIG heratfelt thank you for considering to add this,
Your loyal client, Andrew
Hi Julien. Thank you for this, it's very comprehensive!
Hi!
No worries about asking this here. Clarifying all of this will, without a doubt, benefit others as well. =)
First of all, I apologise for taking quite some time to get back to you.
Is the promise of a year's membership of Visorando still available to Premium members?I'd also like to understand if this year begins when the Plotaroute subscription begins or perhaps some other activation date and what is the process for linking the accounts to achieve this?Yes! Plotaroute Premium users do get access to Visorando Premium. But to be very specific and to answer your third question, the Visorando Premium access you get is of the same length as your Plotaroute Premium membership. Therefore, if you stay Premium for more than a year, you'll have access to Visorando Premium for more than a year as well. However, if you link your Plotaroute account to Visorando after several months of Premium, you'll only have access to Visorando Premium for the remaining months (if you don't renew your Plotaroute Premium membership of course). The process is as simple as clicking on the "Link to Visorando" button in the top bar of Plotaroute. More on this here.
If so does it apply immediately if I upgrade from my current free account? As soon as you go Premium on Plotaroute, you can click on "Link to Visorando", and the Premium status will also transfer to Visorando.
Also, because I get this question quite a lot through the support:When a Standard user links their account to Visorando for the first time, they'll get a three-day Premium trial. This is also the case if you create an account on Visorando, without coming from Plotaroute. This does not lead to a paid subscription after the trial. After three days, the Visorando account just reverts to Standard.
I hope this helps!Feel free to ask further questions about this. :)

I've found Plotaroute by far the most useful and functional method of route planning and I've also just begun trying the Visarando. I'd like to understand the situation before I begin my Plotaroute upgrade.
Apologies if this is not the correct place for this question. I am new to using this forum and haven't yet found these answers using search.
Happy to hear that Plotaroute will continue. It has become a critical tool for me that I would happily pay more for if needs be.
Good news for the future!
Thanks for sharing
Dear Plotaroute Community,
Thank you for your continued support during this transition. We’ve read and truly appreciate the reactions to our 2025 announcement, and we’re grateful for the thoughts shared by many of you. We understand that some of the changes we mentioned have raised concerns, so we’d like to take this opportunity to clarify our plans moving forward.
Here’s what we want to highlight:
We truly believe that open communication is essential, and we are committed to providing you with regular updates. While we understand that this change can be difficult, we are confident that the future holds many exciting opportunities for both Plotaroute and Visorando. Rest assured, we are here to support you as we move forward together.
Once again, thank you for all your feedback.
Hello Julien/admin/devAny answer to my post of 15/03?ThanksCheers
Roy
Hi Julien,
Having read this thread, I'm currently of the same mind as Luis earlier: "Just so that I'm clear - as a premium Plotaroute subscriber you are suggesting that I give you ideas for improvement that I'll never see unless I become a Visorando subscriber, as they will only be implemented going forward in the other product, but that I could of course cease being a Plotaroute subscriber when the annual renewal is due and just buy a membership of the other product, which does not have the functionality that Plotaroute offers? How does this even make any sense?" (Luis Caso)
I use Plotaroute extensively as a web utility to plan continental-scale off-road cycle routes. From what I can see of Visorando's plotting functionality at https://www.visorando.com/en/index.php?component=rando&task=newCircuitV2&idRandoTemp=18541e12fe7f3f52c86742d7870e3029 it is very inferior to what is available in Plotaroute now.
Can you confirm if Plotaroute's functionality will be ported to Visorando?Further, if I chose to continue using Plotaroute can you clarify the below: "But we do understand that users may not want to use Visorando at all, even if we implement the Plotaroute engine. In this case, we wanted to be upfront and say that using Plotaroute as is will still be possible, but with no further development."
I understand that if this is your case, sharing new feature ideas might not make any sense."What does "no further development" mean? - If the plotting engine (as opposed to eg the community functions) is going to be developed to support Visorando, it would seem to make sense that changes to that are also reflected in Plotaroute too... no?
As I am currently plotting a trans-Europe route that entails considerable work, I don't want to find myself in the position of having to do it over for another platform.
Looking forward to your responseCheersRoy
Hi Mark, hi all,
Pre-Visorando, I guess it was about once a month. At least it's what the FAQ says here. Not sure I can get a more precise answer from the team. Before writing my previous post, I asked the devs if they could tell me how it's going to work going forward. They couldn't tell me the frequency, because right now it's a manual time-consuming process. This is why they're working on an automated process, to be able to set up a regular and frequent update.
I'll get back to you about this as soon as I have an update.
Nice weekend to everyone!
Julien
Julien,
Great to hear about getting the email situation under control, that will surely help the community :)As a matter of interest, how often was the route engine updated in pre-Visraondo days, and what's the expected update going forwards? Like, once a month, twice a year?
Cheers,
Mark
Hello everyone!
I apologise for not being active in the forum recently. I was waiting for a specific update from the devs to share with the community, which I just got!
First of all, regarding the support issue I wrote about earlier this month:
I've been busy since and have now sent back every answer to an email, that had been written by the team before I joined, but had never been received by the Plotaroute users.
Second, about the expected timeline to get the Plotaroute engine to Visorando:
I can’t give you an answer on this. The devs are actively working on every aspect of this massive change for Plotaroute and Visorando. I'll be sharing news as it happens.
Last but not least, regarding the route engine updates, I’ve answered several emails on that exact topic and understand how important it is for OSM maps to be up to date.
I’m happy to share that the devs just informed me that they successfully updated the route engine yesterday!
Have a great day!
