If you've not done any flat running training, it is REALLY tough.
Course is mostly flat w a moderate hill from 38-41km which slow kills.
You work almost all of 42km. Almost no rest on whole race.
Race is deceptive as 1st half can be quite fast.unless you're fit.

CONGESTION(crowd) - 6/10 (10 being 2Oceans)
- Latest 4:00am to arrive for 5:30am start.
- 42 +21 start together

- Water tables: 6 - more at each stop or should be spread out more,
- Bins: 7 bins further apart
- Shade: run through tree lined sections a few times. good relief

Overall a good race. Recommended by many as a good for first marathon. I disagree - Too flat. But if 3rd or 4th marathon or more, then a very enjoyable route.

- TOILETS: 5/10 just about adequate. long lines. should spread more, put on map before.

AFTER RACE:
- Atmosphere at grounds: 7 - safe, nice grass, some vendors
- MEDAL DESIGN: 6/10 better than most JHB medals
