About 17 (or 8.5) miles of easy walking, within the picturesque Stour Valley.

Start at Kingfisher Leisure Centre, Station Road, SUDBURY, CO10 2SU.

From Kingfisher Leisure Centre, set off along the river bank to Bakers Mill in Great Cornard. Head out towards Little Conard and eventually to the TV transmitter aerial. From here, make your way towards the village of Bures, which is roughly the halfway point.

NOTE: Trains are available once an hour back to Sudbury, or to Marks Tey to connect to Ipswich, if you would like to walk only half the route.

From Bures, cross over to Essex and walk back to Sudbury via both lanes and footpaths, and some pretty views over the river valley.

It is worth noting is that the route West out of Bures through 'The Ferriers' wood is/was overgrown, and you need to look for a track slightly to the right of the lowest part of the wood on a slope that runs high on the right to low on the left, whilst keeping to the bearing if using a compass.

Lots of grass seed around, so pollen levels could be high walking through grass. Bring hayfever medical stuff with you if you need it.

Based on a route plan by Andy Palmer for the Ipswich Outdoor Group (www.ipswichoutdoor.org).

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
