This route has 7 hills, some of them can be steep and challenging, including hard to find. The terrain is a mixture of rock, rock gravel, grass, muddy path (after rain). Rocks can be slippery so don't attempt if you do not have trail shoes.

    1) The starting point is from St Margaret's Well, opposite to Holyrood Palace carpark on Queens Drive.

    2) Run up along The Dry Dam (tourist route) and pass the pathes that take you up to the old ruin. Further up on the left there is a gravel path amongst the bushes that will take you up towards the FIRST HILL - The Winky Hill, 178.

    3) From here you make your way down towards the LEFT of Dunsapie Loch, make your way up to SECOND HILL - Dunsapie Crag, 146m.

    4) Make your way down to the carpark to the upper part of Dunsapie Loch and take left down Queens Drive for about 50m. To your RIGHT there is a narrow path (almost opposite to the steps that lead down to Duddingston Village/Lochthat will bring you up the very steep hill towards the THIRD HILL - Crow Hill, 238m.

    5) From here make your way down towards the FOURTH HILL - The Nether Hill, 237m, which is to the left of Arthur's Seat.

    6) Now make your way up to the FIFTH HILL - Arthur's Seat, 251m, following the rocky path that goes on the left of the hill towards the top.

    7) From the top, make your way down Piper's Walk, which splits to the left by The Dry Dam path, and down the left Piper's to the valley entrance south of Holyrood - The Hawse, (Close to Pollock Hall round about).

    8) From here run up along the SIXTH HILL - Salisbury Crags, all away around the top of it and back down until you reach the path you passed at the start of the route and run towards St Anthony's Well.

    9) At St A. Well make your way up the SEVENTH HILL - Haggis Knowe, this is the last hill and also the finish point!

    10) Well done! Go and have a warm tea and scone and warm up!

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
