Unnötige Steigungen oder Straßenabschnitte werden vermieden. Zudem wunderbare Natur mit abwechslungsreichem Wald und auch Fernblicken zwischen Kreuzeiche und Eisenberg.
Leider sieht man zur Zeit nahe dem Eisenberg aber auch größere Kahlflächen durch das trockenheitsbedingte Sterben der Fichten in den letzten drei Jahren.
Die Strecke beginnt im Zentrum von Bad Hersfeld und steigt durch ein Wohngebiet an zum Waldrand. Dann geht es (flacher) weiter auf Waldwegen bis zum Hof Hählgans oberhalb von Gittersdorf. Dann wird die Stellerskuppe umfahren; ein etwa 300m langer Abschnitt auf einer Landstraße bis zum Parkplatz Lange Heide ist nicht zu umgehen. Weiter geht es dann fast ausschließlich auf Waldwegen bis zum Wanderparkplatz Am Stern unterhalb des Eisenberg-Gipfels. Die letzten ca. 1,5km müssen auf der Landstraße bis zum höchsten Punkt des Eisenbergs bewältigt werden. Oben gibt es einen (kostenpflichtigen) Aussichtsturm und ein Café.
Die Querung der Autobahn zwischen Lange Heide und Kreuzeiche ist ein kleiner Tunnel, der aber mittlerweile beleuchtet ist. Vorsicht: Es kann glatt sein durch Feuchtigkeit! Der Eingang zum Tunnel hat eine Art größere Stufe, man muss hier mehr oder weniger Trittsicher das Fahrrad hinunterschieben, kann dann aber durch den Tunnel fahren.
