Mwanza To Arusha, Tanzania April 2016

Just before Singida, turned off on to the Dongabesh road. All mud/ dirt & rocky roads, some worse than others (!) but lovely peaceful & scenic route. Rejoin the tarmac on the A104 at Madukani.

Be careful at Mtinko, north of Singida - I followed what looked like the main road going north to Dongabesh which turned out to be a road going west instead, adding 100km onto the journey and some interesting navigation across to Haidom, ho hum!

Highlight was last day after Mbulu riding into the morning clouds then gazing down into the Great Rift Valley & taking the final short, steep descent to Magara - no way I'd do this in reverse, think it would kill me (!)

Just before Magara, seems there is a river crossing to make (?!?), didn't see that on map.
We'd had some rain but river was still passable, water up to knees & bum at times but managed to heave bike over.

NB maybe take bags over first then bike (if they're not waterproof - mine aren't). I just piled everything up on rear rack, strapped it on then half way across it all started to fall off, almost losing the lot downstream - what an idiot !?!?

That afternoon involved lots of water crossings as fields flooded across roads, a couple involved unloading bags again, but most were only as deep as bottom bracket so just shoes & socks off.

NB couldn't get any bike repairs done in Mwanza but Nzega, couple of days south is great, loads of bikes & quite a few decent mechanics with useful tools.
In Arusha, came across a blindingly great workshop & team of mechanics - absolutely top class:
