This is a relatively easy route that crosses the bridge over the canal and river, then enters the Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve. After passing through the nature reserve the route follows the path of the River Calder before returning to the Calder and Hebble Canal that is followed to Brighouse. The route then crosses the canal and river at Brighouse, goes under the railway bridge then turns right to follow Thornhill Road and Lillands Lane uphill before entering woodland then to Reins Wood and Strangstry Wood to return to the car park at Cromwell Bottom.

The return from Brighouse to Cromwell bottom is a little more strenuous with a few uphill stretches on back roads and good woodland paths. There are two short steep descents where extra care will need to be taken, if you have walking poles you may find that these are helpful as the path is uneven with tree roots in places.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
