This really is one of 2 most favourable short routes I can come up with for NW winds, especially for a flat route. The other similar route is simply via Tilston & CP for return leg and not suitable post heavy rains / floods.
The return on this one is up hill via Brown knowl and the easier side of Harthill.
The route is also aimed at local flooding ,especially Tattenhall, namely Rocky lane & Frog lane , which have both been flooded badly all winter (2024- terrible)
The start is deliberately out via Barton, as a tail cross wind at worst, on the most exposed bit of the route, which becomes full tail wind until the last bit into Malpas, once past Wetreins lane of course, which is a cross headwind wind, but down hill. The last bit into Malpas is up hill, but fair hedgerow protection. Once on the other side of Malpas, it’s a cross wind at worst to No Man’s Heath. And then uphill into wind, but good hedgerow cover, so not bad at all.
The stretch up through Brownknowl is excellent very well protected from the wind due to high hedge rows and the same through Harthill. Then it’s down hill into Tattenhall.
Not aimed at a cafe stop of course, but in winter, the Fire station cafe Malpas, is at 14 miles, if the feet get cold quick and half way.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
