The ORB is a great way to see the Columbia Pacific. For the expert rider as there are challenging areas including: Highway 101, Fort Columbia Tunnel, Astoria-Megler Bridge, and Highway 30. Highway 4 is less trafficked though has narrow shoulders in some areas. The Astoria Riverwalk has plank gaps approaching 1" in width and riders must be careful to avoid them as well as the slick rails. There are many short punchy climbs above 10% and one steep gravel
section up Deep River approaching Salmon Creek Road. Pick good weather in late summer/fall and you will be rewarded with beautiful vistas. A short ferry ride puts you on Puget Island and Cathlamet is a few miles away. An easy two day ride out if your prone to photograph..consider 3 days. There are many side road bypasses to get off the highways and these country roads allow for more relaxed riding. Watch the highway crossings!

Elochaman Marina in Cathlamet is a good half way point. Yurts are available at port by reservation. Hot Showers and restrooms available and a portapoty is stationed nearby Yurts as well. Freshwater tap nearby. A nearby brew pub with food delivered to the pub is very nice. Maria's in town serves a nice breakfast.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
