The walk descends to Luddenden Brook before climbing up the valley side to Upper Saltonstall to join the Calderdale Way. The road follows the contour of the hill before climbing again onto Warley Moor, turning left along the catchwater drain to Warley Moor Reservoir.
The return follows the catchwater drain on Midgely Moor before heading over open moors to Back Clough, Churn Milk Joan, a historic marker, and the Calderdale Way back to Jerusalem Farm.
The standing stone Churn Milk Joan near Crow Hill Nook, has a small cup on the top that tradition has it travellers would leave small tokens to assist other travellers. The tradition is you take what is there and leave something in return.
After the initial climb much of the walk follows the contours of the moors before descending back to the start. Expect some boggy areas so boots and gaiters are recommended.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
