The 'lakes' at the start are really nice. Alver Valley Country Park is also really nice, although it can be a bit of a maze. Just wander around and you'll find your way out eventually. Some nice history at the river crossing point to look out for.
I have just re-routed the walk a bit as the 'Browndown' section can't be accessed, so apologies for that. On a positive note, anyone doing this route now won't have to do the long section along the road as I had to! It's a slightly unusual last part between the military areas and sadly a road (albeit probably quiet) section, but you do get a great view over Portsmouth harbour to enjoy at the end of it - can't say fairer than that!
