With Plot-A-Route, I can create my very own mix-up route easily, and this one is no exception. It shows me how I can go on a big adventure taking in some of the major capitals, backroads of the UK, Ireland and east Germany, and - of course - the thing I'm most confident about - some of the Alps' most majestic peaks. Combine that with fairytale castles, winding mountain roads and a whacking great Central European waterpark, and I have the perfect route to guide me on this magical tour!

It starts with a long gentle warmup of the UK and Republic of Ireland, and then heads down to the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone to board one of the vehicle-carrying Eurotunnel shuttle trains to Coquelles near Calais in France through the Channel Tunnel, whisking me at the other end into a world of French culture, beautiful rivers and - of course- who can forget Giverny, the home of the beloved French watercolour artist Oscar-Claude Monet whose artworks have been admired for many years.

It then heads further north into a 12-day trip to Belgium and Luxembourg, home to excellent Belgian chocolate and beer, and of course the beautiful castles in the Ardennes - Bouillon in particular - before wending its way into Hamburg in north Germany, home to Miniatur Wunderland, one of the biggest model railway of its kind on the entire planet.

After stopping in Berlin with its awesome Brandenburg Gate, the route follows the river Elbe into Prague, the Czech Republic's capital and largest city, to explore Aquapalace Prague, Central Europe's largest waterpark and then further downward following the River Danube to Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. On the way back, it spectacularly traverses the dramatic natural skyline of the Alps to Chamonix in France, standing in the shadow of Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain, before heading on the Paris for the Eiffel Tower and the wonderful Disneyland Paris. It returns to the UK by way of the Channel Islands, good for a stopover along the way!

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
