Stage 5 of the GM Ringway, Greater Manchester's long-distance walking route, takes us right to the edge of the Peak District.

    Highlights include:
    - Colourful forest paths in Middle Wood and Disleybank Wood
    - Sections of the pretty Macclesfield and Peak Forest Canals
    - Quiet paths along Bollinghurst Brook
    - Heritage and classic scenery in Lyme Park with its Grade I-listed hall
    - Fine views towards Mellor Moor and the Peak from Marple Ridge
    - The old calico-printing settlement of Strines.

NB. From April 2024, the main route between the canal and Lyme Park (parallel to the river and rail line) is temporarily closed. For the time being, follow the revised route, currently shown in blue, that remains on the canal southwards and then uses Lyme Road and the subsequent path to enter Lyme Park at the southern car park.

There are more ups and downs than on previous stages, particularly in Disleybank Wood and along the ridge in Lyme Park, and again muddy sections after wet weather.

You will need to follow the diversion shown on the map,

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
