    Risalita in auto la Val Brembana si raggiunge Carona. Poco dopo, ad un tornante, si parcheggia.
    Si prende a destra (frecce) una stradina secondaria. Ci si incammina lungo quest’ultima stradina che sale a raggiungere le case Pagliari, un simpatico agglomerato di caratteristiche costruzioni. Superate le case si giunge, poco più su, ad un ponte che passa accanto alla grande cascata ghiacciata che scende dalla Val Sambuzza.
    Si raggiungono e si superano le Cascine del Dosso e si arriva ad una vasta conca al centro della quale una regolare spianata di neve tradisce la presenza del piccolo Lago del Prato. Lo si aggira a sinistra, si continua sempre sulla strada che ora si è fatta in alcuni punti più stretta; si arriva ai piedi della diga del Lago di Fregabolgia.
    Ci si sposta a sinistra e per una scalinata (paletto segnaletico) si sale passando accanto alle case dei guardiani e raggiungendo la parte sommitale della diga. Si costeggia in falsopiano la sponda settentrionale del lago e si raggiunge il rifugio Calvi
