The Gippsland region produces a quarter of the nation's milk supply. This 490-km ride meanders through the rich dairy country of South Gippsland on the rural back roads used by milk trucks that pick up fresh supplies twice daily from various milking sheds in the district. The route includes a section of the Grand Ridge Road with glorious views both sides of the ridge and south to the sea. There are some sections of dirt road to add spice and which help make it very scenic. The route passes by milk processing factories, cheese factories and old dairy farmer’s co-ops that have long closed. You’ll be sure to meet lots of black and white Friesian cows named Daisy.
