    3 days of hiking the Tongariro Northern Circuit. Easy to moderate / demanding parts, steep climbs, deep drops with loose gravel and cliffs on the sides. Volcanic landscapes above the treeline.

    Day 1: Mangetepopo Parking - Oturere Hut
    Day 2: Oturere Hut - Waihohonu Hut
    Day 3: Waihohonu Hut - Whakapapa Village

    Day 1: started in a massive stream of tourists, school classes and day hikers. Mostly hiking up the mountains next to Mt. Ngauruhoe. Notable points: devil's staircase, views on Mt. Taranaki, walking through South Crater, Red Crater views, the Emerald Lakes, Blue Lake (after which we left the stream of tourists behind), and steam vents. Ended the day at Oturere Hut.

    Day 2: starting at Oturere Hut to Waihohonu Hut. Notable points: the sunrise, waterfall behind the hut, Ohinepango Springs, and the Old Hut. Ended the day at Waihohonu Hut (a massive modern hut).

    Day 3: Waihohonu Hut to Whakapapa Village. Notable points: endless fields, the Tama Lakes, mountain views, and Taranaki Falls.

    Total hike of about 47/48 kilometres in 3 days. Beautiful weather and overnighting in huts.
