CER- Alison’s To Aqueduct Marina / Milking Parlour
This one is a new variation to the Aquaduct Marina, in a clockwise direction for CER and has had the minor glitches removed.
I have also changed the section around Nantwich, so it now avoids the busy chester road, up to Acton and meanders around the outer edge of Nantwich, via the conventional route, which is much better and it hasn’t added any extra mileage.
In addition this route does not use the accepted usual route route up to Bunbary via the Brindley crossing, because the lanes have become atrocious and the alternative has been greatly improved, which is via Haughton & up past Chestnut meats farm cafe half way up on the right. Used to be atrocious through Haughton but not anymore.
This version suits more westerly winds.
This is a flat route and more exposed than my usual rides hence, preferable in lighter winds. There are some cracking scenic lanes in great condition, especially in the first half of this version.
Note what used to be an awful stretch of road down to Nantwich ( Wettenhall lane is now lovely smooth tarmac- at last resurfaced)
It really is a lovely, very scenic route in places, due to the lack of hedge rows, which can be exposed of course hence, lower winds needed etc.
The Marina is at almost 21miles. However, an option and better from a mileage perspective is the Milking Parlour cafe, on the Wettenhall road, at 24 miles ( just need to turn right at the junction of Wettenhall around 23. 5 miles and half mile-ish on the left tucked back out the way in a farm yard, basically.
The Marina is a cracker, with a new large conservatory, so good for a big group. The cafe is in the near L/h, corner, once you enter the car park, over a few speed bumps ) I have altered the return leg at Brindley for the alternative up past the Chestnut meats farm and small cafe, as the conventional crossing at Brindley to Bunbary is getting very rough and pot holie again . This alternative means we have to ride a few hundred mtrs on the A road, but it’s not a bad one and the alternative up past ‘Chester meats’, with it’s small cafe, is now much better as they have repaired and resurfaced the bad sections through Haughton.
There really is no other way of getting across this A road and heading North, which means you have to ride a couple of narrow narly tracks to get to the crossing of the A road, unless you head directly north from Ravensmore and ride 1 mile on the A road , which is not ideal.
